Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the mentorship program?

The mentorship program begins on March 20 and continues through the end of the semester. How this time is used is up to both the student and the alumni, but we absolutely encourage maintaining those connections past the semester.

What is the time commitment?

We ask that mentors have the availability to respond to mentees on a minimum weekly basis, whether that be through email, text, or video call. While it’s ultimately up to students to initiate conversations, mentors can also be the first to reach out!

How are pairs decided?

Multiple factors are under consideration to determine pairs. This can include student seniority, mutual career interests, etc. Mentors have the option to have more than one mentee, but mentees can only have one mentor.

Am I guaranteed to be matched?

Signing up does not guarantee your placement in the program. If you are not matched this semester, you’ll be notified, and we always encourage you to participate next year! Although we aim to have everyone who wants to participate involved, matches depend on the number of sign-ups from both alumni and students.

What if I’m having trouble contacting my mentor or mentee?

First, try checking spam. AU emails can often have trouble with unfamiliar emails. If you continue to have difficulties or if you have any other questions or concerns, please contact alumni@auprssa.org.

What is expected of me as a mentor?

More than anything, we hope you can share your career journey and experiences! You’ve learned a lot since your time at AU, and your advice is invaluable. Commit to being a resource for your mentee, help them set goals, and make an effort to be available.

How can I gain the most from this mentorship program as a student?

Take the initiative! Your mentor wants to support you, so please don’t hesitate to ask questions or reach out. This is an opportunity to grow your professional network and learn more about how to navigate your future career path.
