Why did you join PRSSA?

I joined PRSSA second semester of my freshman year because I was considering a double major in public relations. I knew a degree in public relations opens a lot of doors, but I didn’t know what opportunities would suit me. As a prospective PR student, I wanted to find out more about the field to discover a niche I would want to pursue. Additionally, I wanted to begin developing the skills necessary to be in the field, such as managing social media accounts and writing blog posts.

Why do you think others should join?

I think other people should get involved with PRSSA because PR is not something you have to major in to make a career out of. By simply knowing people in the field and having relevant experience, you can land a job in public relations. Going on-site visits and speaking to professionals in the field about their experiences has taught me this and helped me narrow down the types of PR I am interested in. I am sure it would help anyone else who is unsure about what they want to do with their future, as well. Best of all, when you join PRSSA, there are a number of opportunities to “get your hands dirty” and cultivate skills applicable to the field. We are always looking for help creating blog posts, running the social media, and planning events.
