Tony Ruffin is a Senior External Affairs Specialist at Pepco, an Exelon company. Exelon is the leading U.S. competitive energy provider with one of the cleanest and lowest-cost power generation fleets and largest retail customer bases in the nation. Headquartered in Chicago, the company does business in 48 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
Prior to his current role, Tony served as Pepco’s Senior Strategic Planning Manager for Government Affairs and Corporate Citizenship for 7 ½ years. In the position, he helped to develop, shape and implement communications strategies to advance the company’s legislative and regulatory policies, reporting directly to the company’s region president. He has led several successful company projects including managing the Grass Tops Information Employee Forums and the Pepco (External) Speakers Bureau, a group of more than 60 employees who serve as community ambassadors and attend community events throughout the Washington Metropolitan area to discuss Pepco’s important work.
During his career, he has held several communications managerial roles in both Prince George’s County Public Schools and Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the second- and fifth-largest public school districts respectively in the state of Maryland. He began his career as a journalist with the Syracuse (N.Y.) Post-Standard and Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger.
Tony holds a B.A. in Journalism from The George Washington University and an M.A. in Public Communication from The American University.
