Did you know that 9 people are on the executive board for AU PRSSA? The Eboard is elected by PRSSA members and tasked with a wide array of roles that contribute to the organization. We’re a group of different years, majors, and hobbies and we’re all working to make PRSSA a fun and inclusive club that caters to all members’ interests, helps students develop their professional skills, and provides students useful connections and opportunities. Want to get to know the people behind the scenes? Here’s are some fun facts about each of our Eboard members:
Finance and Fundraising Director: Cordelia Bell
Cordelia is a Communications, Law, Economics, and Government (CLEG) major from Saint Albans, Vermont. She joined PRSSA to learn more about the communications field, meet an incredible group of people, and learn from some amazing presenters. As Director of Finance and Fundraising, Cordelia is looking forward to getting a budget drafted for Spring 2016, organizing current material to make it easier for future directors, and planning some awesome fundraisers.
Fun Fact: Cordelia is also getting her certificate in Leadership Studies and aspires to go to law school.
Events Director: Meghan Ott
Meghan is a Game of Thrones enthusiast and lover of tea who hails from Boston (OK, not really, but close enough). She is a Public Relations Major with a minor in Sociology, and is interested in doing non-profit work once she graduates in two years. Meghan joined PRSSA last semester in order to learn more about PR and to make more connections at AU. She soon became an adamant supporter of the events committee, and ran for the position of events director when it opened up in May. Meghan is excited to create fun and useful events for PRSSA members, and hopes to see you all at the next committee meeting!
Fun Fact: Meghan participated in an exchange program to France her Sophomore year of high school.
Diversity and Inclusion Director: Channing Gatewood
A DMV native, Channing is a junior double major in Music and Public Relations. She joined PRSSA as a sophomore, looking for ways to become more involved with her second major. For Channing, PRSSA has been a great way to network, to meet other students with a similar interest, and to learn about the PR career experience first-hand. She is looking forward to serving her first year on the E-board, and is enthusiastic about helping members have a memorable and worthwhile PRSSA experience.
Fun Fact: She has been completely gluten, dairy, nut, and egg free since birth!
Firm Director, Eagle Communications: Madden McDonagh
Madden is enjoying her first semester on PRSSA e-board as Firm Director for Eagle Communications. Madden’s most rewarding experiences in PRSSA have been with Eagle Comm, and she’s excited to share that with new members this semester. Madden likes to take breaks from PR by supporting the New York Yankees, and you can catch her on campus DJing on WVAU or playing piano in Katzen. Talk to her about joining our PR firm, Eagle Communications!
Fun Fact: She has a life-long dream of being the first female umpire in the MLB
Director of Membership Services: Libby Parker
Hailing from San Francisco, Libby is a Public Relations major, doubling minoring in Marketing and Graphic Design. She joined PRSSA fall of her freshman year and quickly became involved with events and Eagle Communications. She hopes one day to become a communications director for arts and culture organizations. She divides her time between reminding people to send in their membership dues, researching sushi restaurants, and turning the sass meter up to full capacity.
Fun Fact: She doesn’t find fun facts to be all that fun.
Website Director: Hannah Ross
Hannah is a senior Public Relations and Strategic Communication major and Justice minor from Framingham, Massachusetts. She joined PRSSA to meet other people interested in communications and to hear from professionals in the industry about their jobs and experiences. Hannah started her role as website director in the fall and is excited to manage the blog. She hopes to work in nonprofit or social change PR when she graduates.
Fun fact: her weird hobby is learning the real names of musical artists.
Publicity Director: Kabira Barlow
Kabira is a Junior from Baltimore majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Sociology. In addition to PRSSA, she works in the Dean’s office in the School of Communication and is an SOC Ambassador. She is a food lover and professional napper. She’s incredibly excited about Luke Cage premiering on Netflix!
Fun fact: The first time she went to Vegas she was 8 and got to stay up until 3am.
Vice President: Emma Ingram
Emma is a sophomore hailing from Andover, MA. She is studying Public Relations and Strategic Communication with double minors in Marketing and International Business. Emma has had an absolute blast in PRSSA so far, from attending events to participating in site visits across DC. She is especially looking forward to attending national conference this October and having the opportunity to connect and network with PRSSA students and professionals from all over the country. In terms of her role as Vice President this year, she is excited to get the mentorship program up and running as well as engaging the chapter in service opportunities throughout the year.
Fun fact: Emma doesn’t have a sense of smell!
President: Melanie Salemno
Melanie is a Philadelphia native with dreams to conquer the undeniably crazy realm of crisis communication. With a PR major and Marketing and Psychology minors, she joined PRSSA as a sophomore. Although new to the land, Melanie was very active from the beginning, participating on the Events Committee before serving as the Director of Events last year. Now the fearless leader of AU’s PRSSA, Melanie is excited to consolidate everyone’s best efforts to elevate the 2016-17 chapter to new and great possibilities.
Fun fact: Melanie’s go to Dav order is an iced red-eye (cold brew with a shot of espresso).
