  1. The Major Games: Catching Your Academic Major at AU

Hosts: AU SOC Ambassadors

When: February 8th, 11-2, MGC 2-5

Why you should go: Learn more about your major and how to best navigate school resources at this year’s Major Games. Join all five schools and colleges as they guide you through various districts and valuable resources at AU. As you battle through AU’s academic and campus life offices, you will forge partnerships and develop a supportive team that will help you to choose and thrive in a major that interests you. Do you have what it takes to survive the Major Games? Food will be awarded, so hunger and boredom will not set you back as you explore countless opportunities.  #MajorGames17 May the odds of finding your major be ever in your favor.

  1. PRSA New Professionals Networking Happy Hour

Host: PRSA DC Chapter

When/Where: February 8th, 5:30-7:30PM, La Tasca – 722 7th Street, NW

Why you should go: Don’t miss the chance to meet DC PRSA members working in the field for networking opportunities. Also use this time to conversate with other PRSSA students and working professionals. Tickets $10 for PRSSA members and $20 for non-members. Join PRSA for the first happy hour event of 2017.

  1. Advanced Snapchat and Instagram Workshop

Host: Washington Women in PR

Why you should go: Have you noted all the changes on Snapchat and Instagram lately? So have we! Check out this workshop to hear, share and learn about what to make of the new features and how to leverage them for your business goals. This is not a 101 series. It is designed for those who already have experience on the platforms. Also, breakfast will be provided. $15 for PRSSA members, $25 for nonmembers.

  1. Personalizing the Presidency: Digital Media & the Obama White House

Host: Queers and Allies, Women’s Initiative, Wellness Center, and SASV

When/Where: February 15th, 7-8:30 PM Malsi Doyle and Michael Forman Theater

Why you should go: Did you fall in love with the Obama’s? Do you want to rewind to a happier time in the White House? If so, hear from three former White House media staffers as they tell the stories behind the photos, videos and social media posts that helped shape the Obama family’s image. Audience Q&A to follow. Panelists include: Amanda Lucidon, Official White House Photographer; and Adam Garber, Video Director for the White House Office of Digital Strategy.

  1. How to Network for the SOC Networking Reception

Host: The SOC Career Center

When/Where: February 16th, 6-7 PM, Career Center Library

Why you should go: Make sure your skills are on point for the SOC networking reception. If you need a refresher on how to effectively interact with alumni and employers, this is for you. SOC’s Prof. Chris Palmer leads this interactive pre-reception workshop and will give tips on projecting confidence while starting conversations, making connections, and exchanging contact information. Learn how to gracefully move from one conversation to the next, so that you can mingle with more people and broaden your network.

 

  1. SOC Networking Reception

Host: The SOC Career Center  

When/Where: February 16th, 7-8:30PM, MGC 205

Why you should go: If you are looking for a job or internship this event is a must-attend. Connect with AU alumni and employers offering opportunities and advice. With summer approaching this may be your chance at landing a job before graduation or an internship for the summer. Enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and refreshments while mingling with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff.
